Question 1

What is fire watch?

Accepted Answer

Fire watch is dedicated observation of an affected building or work area while a fire risk or protection impairment is managed. Specialists watch for hazards and signs of fire, record activity, and use the agreed notification procedures. The scope follows the property and responsible fire authority’s instructions.

Question 2

When is a fire watch required?

Accepted Answer

Alarm or sprinkler impairments, hot work, construction conditions, and a fire official’s directive can lead to a fire watch. Triggers, timing, and temporary measures vary. Confirm the requirements for your property with the responsible fire authority.

Question 3

Who can perform a fire watch?

Accepted Answer

The responsible authority determines acceptable qualifications for the assignment. Every deployed REDLINE specialist holds the Fire Watch Academy Level 1 Fire Watch Specialist credential. Additional local licensing, training, permits, or approvals may apply.

Question 4

Can a security guard do fire watch?

Accepted Answer

It depends on local requirements and the person’s qualifications for the assignment. A security role alone does not establish fire watch readiness. REDLINE assigns fire watch specialists with dedicated training, supported by a site-specific briefing.

Question 5

What is a fire watch guard, and how does that compare with a specialist?

Accepted Answer

Fire watch guard is a common term buyers use when searching for coverage. REDLINE uses fire watch specialist to describe personnel with dedicated training and certification for this work. Ask about the actual qualification, assignment, and documentation rather than relying on a job title.

Question 6

What training does a REDLINE fire watch specialist have?

Accepted Answer

Every deployed REDLINE specialist holds the Fire Watch Academy Level 1 Fire Watch Specialist credential. The Academy’s Level 1 catalog includes fire watch fundamentals, emergency crowd management, and fire extinguisher training. Site instructions and additional local requirements also shape the assignment.

Question 7

What does a fire watch specialist do on site?

Accepted Answer

A specialist observes the assigned area, looks for hazards and signs of fire, maintains the required records, and follows the agreed communication and emergency procedures. Patrol routes, timing, and other duties depend on the site and responsible authority’s instructions.

Question 8

What is hot work fire watch?

Accepted Answer

Hot work fire watch provides dedicated observation for activities such as welding and cutting where the permit or site conditions require it. Confirm the watch area and any monitoring period after work ends with the responsible authority and site safety team.

Question 9

What is Fire Watch Academy?

Accepted Answer

Fire Watch Academy offers fire watch training and certification. Its Level 1 Fire Watch Specialist credential is held by every deployed REDLINE specialist. Review the current catalog through the Fire Watch Academy page.

Question 10

Can I train to become a fire watch specialist?

Accepted Answer

The Academy offers public training options through its certification catalog. Review current course details and enrollment requirements with the Academy. Training enrollment is separate from applying for a REDLINE role; visit Careers for current opportunities.

Question 11

How long does fire watch last?

Accepted Answer

Duration depends on the impairment, work conditions, and instructions for the property. Confirm restoration, any required post-work monitoring, notification, and release conditions before ending the watch. A repair contractor’s departure alone does not establish that coverage may stop.

Question 12

What records should I request for a fire watch?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the site and shift details, assigned specialist, patrol times, observations, incidents, and handoffs in the format required for your property. Agree who receives and retains the records. Records support review; the local authority determines acceptance.

Question 13

What if my alarm or sprinkler system fails unexpectedly?

Accepted Answer

Contact the responsible fire authority and your repair contractor about required temporary measures, then give REDLINE dispatch the affected systems, address, and requested start time. Dispatch confirms availability. For a fire or immediate danger, contact emergency services.

Question 14

How quickly can a specialist arrive?

Accepted Answer

Dispatch confirms availability and an arrival estimate for your address and requested shift. Timing depends on location, staffing, access, and the scope of the watch. Confirm the assignment before relying on an estimated start time.

Question 15

Can I request overnight, weekend, or holiday coverage?

Accepted Answer

Include the full shift dates and hours when contacting dispatch, including any overnight, weekend, or holiday requirements. Confirm availability and handoff arrangements for the specific property and watch period.

Question 16

Which locations can I request coverage for?

Accepted Answer

Our Locations directory lists current state and city service information. Give dispatch the exact address and schedule to confirm coverage for your assignment. A service-area listing does not mean REDLINE has a staffed office in that city.

Question 17

What information is needed to arrange coverage?

Accepted Answer

Provide the property address, on-site contact, affected system or reason for the watch, requested start time, expected duration, and any fire authority notice. Include access restrictions and the reporting format if one has been specified.

Question 18

How much does fire watch cost?

Accepted Answer

The quote depends on the property location, shift hours, number of specialists, and duration. Share the scope with dispatch so staffing, scheduling, and price can be confirmed for your assignment.

Question 19

Do you support construction sites?

Accepted Answer

REDLINE supports fire watch for construction and renovation conditions, including impaired systems and hot work. Provide site access, PPE requirements, the contractor contact, and the applicable permit or fire authority instructions.

Question 20

Do you support HOAs, condominiums, apartments, and commercial buildings?

Accepted Answer

REDLINE supports property teams arranging fire watch for system impairments and planned work. Coverage needs depend on the affected buildings, occupancy, access, and fire authority instructions. Confirm the scope for each property with dispatch.

Question 21

How is coordination with the fire authority handled?

Accepted Answer

Provide the written notice and responsible fire official’s contact when arranging the watch. Agree who handles notifications, who can clarify changing conditions, and who confirms release. Hiring a provider does not remove the property’s responsibilities.

Question 22

What happens if a specialist identifies a hazard or fire?

Accepted Answer

Emergency communication is part of the site briefing. The specialist follows the property’s applicable emergency procedures and notification instructions and records the incident. For an active fire or immediate danger, call emergency services.
